Great Guana Cay
The Islands of the Bahamas
Great Guana Cay, one of the largest islands in the Abaco's, is being developed at a fast rate - perhaps the fastest developing family island in the Bahamas. Home to 150 to 200 residents, the settlement is located in the middle of the island on a natural harbor, and most of the islands shops and services can be found there. Great Guana Cay is 9 miles long by a 1/2 mile wide and it's located approximately 200 miles from Palm Beach, Florida, 110 miles from Nassau, Bahamas, and 8 miles from Marsh Harbour, Abaco.
Reaching the shores of Great Guana Cay is easy. Daily flights are available to Marsh Harbour International Airport through major American airliners and Marsh Harbour, Abaco is just a short ferry ride from Great Guana Cay. There are five daily ferries to and from the island, plus customized charter services for groups or late arrivals. Boat rental companies will often offer pick up and drop off from Great Guana Cay as well, so getting there is convenient and hassle-free.
The Great Guana Cay settlement is known for its rich loyalist culture and architecture, as well as its beautiful beaches, sea life, and the active social scene. Several traditional loyalist homes exist in the settlement, which wraps around a natural harbor. Extending to either end of the island, these vibrantly coloured cottages dot the lush tropical foliage and beach dunes. Many of these Bahamas cottages are available as vacation rentals and the island enjoys a healthy rental market that continues to improve.
