The Abacos are a string of Bahamas islands located 180 miles east of Palm Beach, Florida, USA, and about 55 miles north of Nassau, the capital city of The Bahamas. The Abaco mainland is Great Abaco, the third largest island in the Bahamas, with a string of cays (pronounced keys) a few miles offshore stretching along the eastern side of Great Abaco creating the protected Sea of Abaco.

The Abaco's comprise of the main islands of Great Abaco and Little Abaco. The most northern islands are Walker's Cay and the smaller Grand Cay. To the south of that, the next inhabited islands are Spanish Cay, Green Turtle Cay, Great Guana Cay, Scotland Cay, Man-O-War Cay, and Elbow Cay, with its historic settlement of Hope Town. Finishing up the Abaco's are the most sothern islands Tilloo Cay and Lubbers Quarters.

The first inhabites of the Abaco's were the Lucayan indians after which the British Loyalists settled there. The first European settlers of the Abaco islands were Loyalists fleeing the American Revolution who arrived in 1783. The Europeans settled in Abaco during the War of Independence from the United States and today this yachtsman’s haven is renowned for its sports fishing, beach resorts, bed and breakfast inns, waterfront residences, condominiums and marinas.
