A small group known as the Eleutherian Adventurers seeking religious freedom from the British first settled Eleuthera in 1649. This island north to south is approximately 90 miles long and, in most places averaging 2 to 3 miles across.  The island consists of rolling hills and valleys, coastal areas range from high steep cliffs and stunning sandy beaches.  A number of settlements dot the coast and this island is fast becoming a location of choice for reasonably priced vacation homes.
